SacIT Central

SacIT Event Extractor

A bookmark that reads an event page, pulls out the details, and adds it to the SacIT Central calendar β€” with a review step before anything goes live.

Service restored

The extractor is working again. It stopped on 5 September because the AI service behind it ran out of credit. That has been topped up, and the tool now reports the actual reason whenever something fails, instead of showing a blank "Error".

Restored 10 September 2026 Β· No action needed on your side.

Install it once

Takes about a minute. You only do this again if the tool is updated.

  1. 01

    Show your bookmarks bar

In Chrome, Edge or Firefox press Ctrl+Shift+B β€” or ⌘+Shift+B on a Mac. The bar appears under the address bar.

  2. 02

    Open the install page

Go to bookmarklet.sacitcentral.com/bookmarklet.html. You'll see a blue link labelled πŸ“Œ SacIT Extract Event.

  3. 03

Drag the link onto the bar

Drag it β€” don't click it. Clicking does nothing useful; dragging is what saves it as a bookmark you can use on any page.

Add an event

Works on Meetup, Eventbrite, and most event pages that list a date and location.

  1. 01

    Open the event page

Go to the page for the single event you want to add β€” not a search results page or a group's list of events.

  2. 02

    Click the bookmark

A notice reads "Extracting event data…" for a few seconds while the page is read.

  3. 03

    Check what it found

A panel opens with the title, description, date, venue, organizer, suggested tags and images. Nothing has been saved yet.

  4. 04

    Submit to SacIT Central

The green button sends it. You'll get a confirmation, and the button changes to Published βœ“ or Saved as Draft βœ“.

What you can change first

The tool suggests; you decide. Everything below is editable in the panel before you submit.

Title
Editable text box. Worth trimming β€” event pages often pad titles with the group name.
Description
Editable. A note asking readers to confirm details at the source link is added automatically.
Tags
Suggested tags arrive pre-ticked. Untick any that don't fit before submitting.
Featured image
Choose from the images found on the page, or pick No Image.
Publish immediately
Ticked by default, so the event goes live. Untick to save it as a draft for someone to review.
Source link
Added to the bottom of the description automatically, with tracking parameters stripped out.

If something goes wrong

Match the message you see on screen. "Contact admin" means there is nothing you can do from your side.

AI service is out of credit β€” contact the site administrator.

The account that powers extraction has hit a zero balance. This is a billing top-up, not a fault with your browser or the page.

The key the service uses has been revoked or replaced and needs updating.

Event Not Relevant

Not a failure. The event was judged to fall outside SacIT Central's scope β€” tech, IT, AI or professional networking in California β€” or its date has already passed. The panel gives the reason. If you disagree, add it manually.

Working as intended
A panel opens with the title "Error"

You're on an older copy of the bookmark, which couldn't show the real reason. Delete it from your bookmarks bar and install again from the link above.

Reinstall
Nothing happens when you click

Some sites block outside scripts. Try a different event page first β€” if that works, the original site is the problem and the event needs adding by hand.
